Despite being remote, there is so much to do within a very short distance of the house. We have amazing restaurants, fantastic hiking, grocery stores with wonderful produce, distilleries, breweries, farms, and more. Here you will find a few of our favorite spots.

The O&W Rail Trail

Black Walnut Cabin has private access to the O&W Rail Trail. The path to the rail trail is available year round and has a small bridge for the rainy season. Take a right and 5-10 minutes down the the trail is Veteran's Park with a large playground, pickleball courts (we provide paddles & balls), and basketball. Take a left to get all the way to Kerhonkson. The rail trail is perfect for walking, biking, and snowshoeing.

Arrowood Farms

Arrowood is a brewery on a beautiful farm. They grow their own hops and their beers are great. The farm has corn hole and animals for the kids to see (very family friendly). They also serve food and have a fantastic BBQ food truck.

Rough Cut Brewing

Rough Cut is a brewery in Kerhonkson that serves great food. They make a great burger and have a wide variety of other items on their menu. Definitely worth a trip and a great stop after a hike.

Harana Market

Harana Market is a Filipino restaurant and asian grocery that makes delicious food and is right down the street. They are only open Thurs-Sun and worth a visit!

Upstate Taco

Upstate Taco serves authentic Mexican food in Stone Ridge. The husband and wife team had a restaurant in Williamsburg, Brooklyn for ten years before moving upstate.

Accord Market

Accord Market is a small grocery store in the center of Accord that offers locally sourced goods. They have a great selection of produce, staples, and beers. There is also a coffee truck outside on weekdays that makes a great latte from beans they roast themselves.

Sleeping Giant

Sleeping Giant is another ice cream stand  in Kerhonkson with more than 40 flavors plus soft serve. It's a great spot especially after a hike.

Inness

Inness is an upscale restaurant that is part of the Inness resort. The food and views are great and we recommend their brunch on weekends. Inness also has beautiful grounds and a public golf course.

Clay

Clay is an upscale restaurant at Wildflower Farms, a resort in Gardiner about 20 minutes away. It has beautiful grounds and high quality food. Excellent for lunch or dinner and eating outside.

Mohonk Preserve

The Mohonk Preserve is the largest private nature preserve in NY. There are 8,000 acres of protected land at the top of the Shawangunk ridge. There are five trailheads to access the preserve. We recommend starting at the Visitor's Center in Gardiner.

Kelder's Farm

Kelder's Farm is our son's favorite spot. They have a large play area with games, activities, and slides for kids of all ages. They also have mini golf and pick-your own vegetables, fruits, berries, and flowers. There is also a tap room for adults.You can definitely spend all day here.

Coppersea Distilling

Coppersea is a distillery in New Paltz that is an easy top if you are coming or going from NYC.  It is very casual and they have a great outdoor area as well as an indoor space in the barn.

Kettleborough Cider House

Kettleborough is a cidery open summers on weekends in New Paltz and has great views and great cider. Worth a stop if you are in that area.

Westwind Orchards

Westwind is a cidery with wood-fired pizzas and a beautiful open space. It is also very family friendly.

Ollies

Ollies is a pizza restaurant in High Falls with delicious wood-fired pizzas. It is very family friendly and has great food, strong drinks, and a relaxed vibe.

Mountain Brauhaus Restaurant

Mountain Brauhaus is an authentic German restaurant in Gardiner that has been family run since 1955. If you like schnitzel it is a must. It is very popular so gets very busy.

Saunderskill Farm

Saunderskill is a farm market and greenhouse where you can pick up everything you'll need. They have fresh produce, prepared items, some staples, and delicious fresh baked pies. You can also go in the morning for breakfast sandwiches or baked goods. We highly recommend their quiches and raspberry pie.

Cherries

Cherries is an ice cream stand that also serves food. Our kids love their chicken tenders and sundaes. It can get very crowded on hot summer days.

Helena's Specialty Pierogies

Helena's Pierogies are wonderful. Her shop sells a variety of pierogies ready to reheat and serve as well as other Ukranian and Polish specialty items. We love the kielbasa and cheese and onion pierogies.

Butterfield

Butterfield is an upscale restaurant at Hasbrouck House in historic Stone Ridge. The atmosphere is very cozy as it sits inside the historic boutique hotel. The food is also wonderful.

Minnewaska State Park

Minnewaska is a short drive down the road and has waterfalls, lakes, forests, and stunning views. There are a number of trails ranging in difficulty. We recommend the short hike to Awosting falls, Lake Minnewaska, and Sam's Point which has ice caves and a sky lake.

Deep Hole Nature Sanctuary

Deep Hole is a swimming hole on Towpath road just 5 minutes down the street. Great for swimming, wading, and exploring. It isn't marked well on Google Maps but if you go into Accord and take a right on Towpath Road you will hit it a few miles down.

Lippman Park

Lippman Park or "the slide park" has a large playground with (you guessed it) a lot of slides. It also has walking and biking trails around a pond that usually has ducks and geese in it. You can also fish there.

Tuthilltown Distillery

Most people know Tuthilltown for Hudson Whiskey, but they also make gin. Their distillery has a huge fully stocked bar, a food truck, corn hole, picnic tables, and a small pond.

Skate Time

Skate Time is a newly opened roller skating rink just five minutes away. Great for rainy weekends and their roller disco nights!
